Prescriptions Required for Livestock Antibiotics

As of June 11, 2023, manufacturers of livestock antibiotics will begin labeling them with an RX required label. These products include penicillin, cephapirin, lincomycin, oxytetracycline, sulfadimethoxine, and tylosin.

The FDA is allowing sell-through of current OTC labeled inventory. UPCO will continue to offer these antibiotics until OTC labeled stock is depleted from our inventory and our suppliers inventory. A limited supply of over-the-counter antibiotics is available and in stock at UPCO. It is unknown how long our current supplier will have OTC labeled inventory available. UPCO will continue to offer these antibiotics with a script from a veterinarian that can be filled in our state licensed veterinary pharmacy.
