Tis the season to open your heart to those in need and in our world that goes for both humans and animals in need. Have you ever wanted to contribute to an animal shelter or help animals in need but weren’t quite sure how to go about it and what ways you could do so? We have compiled a list of ways you can help in a big way.
1 – Adopt
It’s safe to assume that right this very second, there are several loving, adoptable pets available at your local animal shelter seeking their forever home. If you have room in your heart and in your home for a new four-legged family member, please consider saving a life by adopting through your local shelter. Adoption fees are minimal and include all needed vaccinations, licensing, and alters. It’s important to note the costs and sacrifices associated with caring for a pet. Monthly expenses and time are required to properly care for a new pet. Be sure you have budgeted your time and finances appropriately before adopting a pet. 2 – Foster
Becoming a foster pet parent takes a lot of sacrifice and not for the faint of heart. It requires extra space, time and dedication and the ability to bond with but be able to let go of that animal once they have found a forever home. However, it can be extremely rewarding and offers you the opportunity to give an animal a little more time in finding their forever home. Typically, all food and supplies needed to care for your foster animal are provided by the animal shelter. To see if you are a candidate to becoming a foster parent the following St. Joseph Animal Shelter FAQ is a great resource of information and things to consider.
3 – Donations
Monetary donations and pet supplies are always appreciated. Most animal shelters have a way to accept monetary donations on their website. Every little bit helps! It’s also simple to get a Wishlist of needed items by contacting your local animal shelter. Giving Tip: Look out for closeout food or treat items at your local pet store. Some stores even offer a discount on items that are purchased to be donated to a local shelter.
4 – Volunteer
Animal shelters are always looking for volunteers. From “Doggy Day Out” programs to fundraising, showcasing adoptable pets, and promoting animal welfare there is an array of opportunities to show your support by volunteering. Just make sure you are sincerely ready for this type of commitment both emotionally and timely.
5 – Social Media Sharing
View! Share! Save! One of the simplest ways you can help out is by sharing posts of lost or adoptable pets through social media. Help spread the viewership of those sweet animals. Your quick and easy action may lead to animals finding a forever family.
